In court filings Monday night, Trump said the bond secured by Knight Specialty Insurance Company is backed by Trump’s Charles Schwab account with more than $175 million in cash. “KSIC also has a standing agreement with its parent company, Knight Insurance Company, Ltd. Last month, a New York state trial court found the former president liable for inflating his net worth and misleading banks and insurers in order to receive favorable loans for his various businesses and commercial enterprises. The judge, Arthur F. Engoron, imposed a penalty of $454 million, to be paid into the state’s general fund. Letitia James, New York’s attorney general, gave Trump a 30-day grace period to secure bond as he pursued appeal of the judgment. CNN —A New York judge has imposed a gag order on Donald Trump, limiting the former president from making statements about potential witnesses in the criminal trial relating to hush money payments scheduled to begin next month. The order does not prevent Trump from talking about New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is a public figure, or Merchan himself. A New York appeals court on Monday paused for 10 days a massive civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump, and sharply reduced to $175 million the bond amount he would have to post to obtain a longer stay of that damage award. The ruling came the same day that New York Attorney General Letitia James would have been allowed to start seizing Trump's real estate and bank accounts to satisfy the $454 million-and-rising business fraud judgment in the case. Because of the size of the fraud judgment, the companies insisted that Trump show "cash reserves approaching $1 billion," according to his lawyers. But neither Trump nor the Trump Organization company has that amount of cash on hand, the filing said. The order also stayed Engoron's judge's ruling that had barred Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, from serving as officers and directors of New York companies for two years.

Seizing assets is a common legal option when someone doesn’t have the cash to pay a civil court penalty. In Trump’s case, potential targets could include such properties as his Trump Tower penthouse, aircraft, Wall Street office building or golf courses. Trump maintained on social media Friday that he has almost $500 million in cash but intends to use much of it on his presidential run. Engoron sided with the attorney general and ordered Trump to pay $355 million, plus interest that grows daily. Some co-defendants, including his sons and company executive vice presidents, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, were ordered to pay far smaller amounts.

Speaking on Fox News on Friday, O'Leary said Trump should've been given more time to scrape up his $454 million bond. O'Leary said the idea that Trump's assets can be seized on such short notice has undermined the "American brand."
